Jim Byrnes scores another Juno, the Canadian equivalent of a Grammy, for Best Blues Album of the Year for his latest album, Everywhere West! His not inconsiderable competition included the incomparable Harry Manx and the fabulous Sojourners.
Newswriters noted that a major highlight from the awards ceremony came from the poetic musings of Jim Byrnes, winner of the blues album of the year for his record Everywhere West. Partial quote from The Province newspaper:
"I’m just trying to tell a true story," said Byrnes, who lost both his legs in a car accident in 1972, and also appears on the Canadian television series Hellcats. Byrnes, who walks with a cane and once performed with Chuck Berry, said he feels no need to become a motivational speaker. His career is motivation enough.
"I get out there and live my life, man, I don’t define myself by my disability," said Byrnes. "I hope other people see me acting and singing songs and, you know, they’ll be inspired to live their life, too."
Congratulations, Jim, and play on! |
